Eric W. Newkirk, 43, of Wyatt Drive, died at 10:06 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Eric was born on February 14, 1969, in Columbus, to Dewayne Newkirk and Linda Chichester Smith. He married Donna J. Crane on October 1, 2005.

Eric was employed at Griffin Industries. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling, baseball, playing cards and spending time with family friends. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 173 in Stanford, Indiana.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Steve Bell officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday by Masonic Lodge No. 173 at Stanford.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Eric W. Newkirk Memorial Fund through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Donna J. Newkirk of Columbus; daughter, Corrina Ann Newkirk of Columbus; parents, Linda (Harwood) Smith of Columbus and Dewayne Newkirk of Alabama; brothers, Gary (Carolyn) Smith of Columbus, Jeff (Susan) Springmeyer of Greensburg and Scott Springmeyer of Las Vegas, Nevada; and nieces and nephews, Ryan Smith, GracieAnn Smith, Nicholas Springmeyer, Emily Springmeyer and Tiffany Springmeyer.

Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack (Shirley) Chichester, Marjorie Matlock and Woodrow (Thelma) Newkirk; and his stepmom, Sandra Newkirk.
