Novake S. Banks, 81, of Columbus, passed from this life at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Columbus Regional Hospital after a three-month struggle with a heart and lung illness.
Mrs. Banks enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and raising a garden.
She gave her full attention to her family and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.
She handed down wonderful traits to her daughters that will live on in their children. They include honesty, family values, generosity, money management skills and taking pleasure in simple things.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Additional visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Letcher Funeral Home in Whitesburg, Kentucky.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Letcher Funeral in Whitesburg.
Burial will be at Dinah Blair Cemetery in Letcher County, Kentucky.

Born in Letcher County, Kentucky, April 1, 1931, Mrs. Banks was the daughter of John and Alberta Kiser. She married Raymond P. Banks January 7, 1950. He preceded her in death February 7, 1996.
Survivors include her daughters, Jerry Brock, Frances (Roger) Bean, Elaine (Bart) Seitz and Angie Barnett, all of Columbus; grandchildren, Amanda, Nick and Chris Brock, Nathan Bean, Nicole Steele and Derek Gumm; six great-grandchildren; and her husband, Luther Francis of Columbus.
Mrs. Banks was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years; three sisters; and a brother.
