Alta Marie Ross, 94, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at her home.
Marie was a former employee of KCL Corp., G.C. Murphy Co. Store, Lomark Drug Store, Rite Aid Drug Store and Waldron Nursing Home. She also had worked as a childcare provider.
She was a 1936 graduate of Waldron High School and loved sewing, cooking, caring for others and writing in a daily journal which she had kept since she was 18. She was a lifelong resident of the Shelby County area.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville, with the Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Van Pelt Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Shelby Senior Services or the Salvation Army.
Born in Noble Township, Shelby County, April 27, 1918, Marie was the daughter of Dolph Ross and Winnie Lorene Stansifer Ross.
She is survived by a sister, Betty Ross of Shelbyville; a niece, Wilma Cox of Shelbyville; a nephew, Tom Stansifer of Michigan; three great-nephews; two great-nieces; four great-great-nephews; and four great-great-neices.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Goldie Stansifer; brothers, Edward Ross and Gene Ross; and a nephew, Jim Ross.
