John W. Tellman, 78, of Columbus, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Kindred Transitional Care of Columbus.

Mr. Tellman graduated from Purdue University with a degree in engineering and worked as a design engineer at Rockwell for 33 years, retiring in 1996.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clifty and  a former member of the James B. Eads Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers. He enjoyed golf and loved to work in his flower garden and tend to his yard.

A graveside service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday at Garland Brook Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clifty, 6045 E. State St., Columbus, with Pastor Douglas Bauman officiating. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Arrangements were made by Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street.

Born in Columbus Feb. 22, 1934, Mr. Tellman was the son of Louis W. and Ruth M. Armuth Tellman. He married Marie Johnson Aug. 23, 1959, in McCordsville. She survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Janet Lynn Tellman of Columbus and Cheryl Marie Tellman; and sisters, Mary Lou Tellman and Norma (Robert) Webb of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
