Emmylou Bowman, 83, passed away with her family by her side at 7:58 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Schneck Medical Center.
Emmylou was born April 29, 1929 at Reddington, to Price Perry Baldwin and Gladys Marie Fox Baldwin. She graduated from Shields High School in 1947 and worked as a stenographer at Cummins Engine Company until 1951. On September 10, 1950 she married her sweetheart, Charles William Bowman at Reddington Christian Church. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2012. She and her husband recently celebrated 62 years of marriage, having lived in Jennings County the entire time.
Emmylou was a member of Reddington Christian Church and she most recently attended Hayden Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Jennings County Extension Homemakers and was a 4-H foods project leader for the Browns Corner Peppy Peppers 4-H Club. She loved playing the piano and was the pianist for Reddington Christian Church Men’s Quartet. She also was a former volunteer at Hayden Elementary School and Hoosier Christian Village. She was a member of the Reddington Christian Church Women’s Missionary Society and participated in the Care Letter Ministry at RCC.
Mrs. Bowman is survived by her daughters, Barbara Kay (Ron) Bloemer of North Vernon and Sandy (Glen) Nay of Reddington; her son, Roger (Lisa) Bowman of Hayden; grandchildren, Renee (Matthew) Dolphin of Sherwood, Ore., Anne Galyen, Elise Allen and Andy (Tiffany) Bowman of North Vernon, Michael Bowman of Commiskey, Tyler (Rachel) Nay of Reddington, Sarah (Jeff) Day of Batesville, and Deidre (Tyler) Wagster of Bloomington; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Leon Baldwin of Reddington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Emmylou was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Patricia Jane.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Burkholder Funeral Chapel in Seymour with the Reverends Mark Sorrells and Bill Weaver officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2013 and 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Reddington Cemetery.
