Carmelita Denny, 81, of Columbus, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
She was born in Columbus, February 3, 1931, the daughter of the late Milen and Viola Grider Baker.
She was a home health care provider and was a waitress at the former Hoosier Kitchen in Taylorsville for many years. She was a member of the Columbus Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed drawing, writing poetry and scrapbooking.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Banda of Columbus; sons, Dale and Lynn (Melody) Denny of Columbus; a sister, Kathleen Gannon of Pueblo West, Colo.; a brother, Hubert Baker of Columbus; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Edward Baker; and a grandchild, Dale Eugene Hubbard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Harvey Kornegay officiating and assisted by Brent Ellis and Gregg Fisher. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
