Robert Scott Griffey, age 66, of Cicero, IN, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Riverview Hospital at Noblesville, IN. He was born March 23, 1946, at Shelbyville, IN, to George Robert and Helen Mayrene (McCracken) Griffey.
Mr. Griffey was a graduate of Shelbyville High School with the Class of 1964. He then earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Ball State University. He first taught and coached at Ladoga High School and Carroll High School, then was employed at Hamilton Heights School Corporation in 1977, retiring in 2009. He taught English and coached football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, track and cross country.
He married Kathy Rae (Nally) Griffey on January 23, 1969. She survives him.
Other survivors include a son, Matt (Julie) Griffey of Cicero, IN; a daughter, Lynn (Ryan) Griffey-Ennis of Pendleton, IN; his mother, Mayrene Griffey of Shelbyville, IN; a brother, Greg Griffey of Shelbyville, IN; sisters, Cindy Gruesser of Shelbyville, IN, and Jan Itce of Shelbyville, IN; and grandchildren, Amy, Sydney and Guy Griffey, Abigail, Gabrielle and Addie Ennis.
His father, George Robert Griffey, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, at Arcadia Christian Church with Pastor J. R. Moffatt officiating. Burial will follow at Cicero Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, also at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hamilton Heights Education Foundation.
