James Vernon Brooks Sr., 61, of Butlerville, Indiana, passed away at 7:21 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at his residence.
He was born April 13, 1951, in Seymour, Indiana, the son of Dorothy Koelmel Brooks and the late Vernon “Bud” Brooks.
Mr. Brooks retired in 2003 as a machinist from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, where he had worked since 1969. He went to work as a machinist at NTN Driveshaft in 2006 and worked there until 2010. A 1969 graduate of Jennings County High School, he was a member of Diesel Workers Union and enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting and being outdoors.
He is survived by his son, James Vernon (Jean Wisler) Brooks Jr. of Columbus, Indiana; his mother, Dorothy Brooks of Butlerville, Indiana; his companion, Mary Hoskins of Madison, Indiana; two brothers, Jack (Nancy) Brooks of North Vernon, Indiana, and Don (Debbie) Brooks of Butlerville, Indiana; two sisters, Norma (Walt) Pressler of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Mary Jo Brooks of Scottsburg, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Adrianna Brooks of Seymour, Indiana, Shelby Brooks and Aron Spencer, both of Columbus, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon, Indiana, with the Rev. Marvin Wright officiating. Friends may call at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Graham Baptist Cemetery in Jennings County, Indiana.
