Raquel Cavazos-Wenning, 51, of Columbus, Indiana, was placed in Christ's arms at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Raquel was born January 8, 1962, in Pharr, Texas, the daughter of Jesus Manuel Cavazos and Graciela Garza Cavazos. On June 8, 2002, she married Andrew J. Wenning.
At the age of three, Raquel became a lifelong resident of Columbus, a city she dearly beloved. She owned and operated Columbus Telephone Answering Service until becoming a mother to her first child in 1988.
Alongside her husband, Andy, she helped start A & R Home Remodeling in 1994, which is now in its 18th year.
In 2007, she joined Columbus Regional Hospital where her compassion for people continued to flourish. After being diagnosed January 10, 2011, with stage IV colon cancer, she and her family started a team for Relay for Life, Cavazos Family Fighters.
Raquel had a great passion for sewing and quilting. She made many colorful cancer awareness pot holders and aprons as her contribution to raise money. She was well known for her positive attitude and love of others. She never let cancer win and fought with all her heart every single day.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew J. Wenning; her daughters, Tiadorita "Tia" Cavazos and Raquel "Rocky" Cavazos Hooker, both of Columbus, Indiana; her stepchildren, Jennifer and Kathryn Wenning of Bloomington, Indiana, and Michael Wenning of Columbus, Indiana; and her sister, Viviana Cavazos of Columbus, Indiana.
Raquel was preceded in death by her father, Jesus Manuel Cavazos; and her brother, Raul "Rudy" Cavazos.
