Earl N. "Butch" Smith, 71, of Taylorsville, graduated to Heaven at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at his home.

Earl was an alignment technician throughout his life, previously working at Frank Anderson and retiring in 1999 from the Goodyear Tire Store. He was a member of Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene. He loved to play the guitar, golf and fish.

He will always be remembered for his love of life and sense of humor. Earl loved and was very proud of his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was also very blessed to have a loving church family.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Ross Kirkman officiating. Calling will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Memorial contributions may be made to Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Indianapolis Dec. 10, 1941, Earl was the son of Homer JR Smith and Mary Ada Bryant Smith. He married Carolyn Sue Hall April 2, 1971.

Survivors include his mother, of Edinburgh; his wife; sons, Brian E. (Paula) Smith of Bradenton, FL, Gary E. (Tammy) Smith and Andrew N. (Amanda) Smith, all of Columbus, IN; daughters, Lisa D. (Les) Shrock of Cimarron, CO, Cindy (Joe) Bloom of Columbus, IN, and Lori (Dewy) Driver of Taylorsville, IN; brothers, Marlin (Sue) Smith of Franklin, IN, Steven (Patti) Smith of New Whiteland, IN, Randy (Becky) Smith of Edinburgh, IN, Ernie (Rachel) Smith of Edinburgh, IN, and Jerry W. Smith of Indiana; sisters, Faye (Carroll) Ridpath of Edinburgh, IN, Pamela (Samuel) Phelps of Franklin, IN, Edna (Mike) Lawson of Franklin, IN, and Karen Lariot of Martinsville, IN; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents and a great-grandson, Levi David Hernandez.
