Mary "Penny" Ruth Tiede, 93, died peacefully at 10:45 p.m. on February 2, 2013, at her residence at Four Seasons, with her family by her side.

Penny was born September 20, 1919, in Columbus, OH. She graduated from high school in Hilliard, OH, in 1937, and attended nursing training before marrying Ralph Lester Tiede in Columbus, OH, on August 3, 1941. They lived much of their married life in Newark, OH. Following her husband’s retirement form Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp., they moved from Newark to southern California. They were blessed to celebrate 57 years of marriage.

During her lifetime, Penny had a number of jobs including working at Dennison University. A Methodist and lifelong volunteer, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, including a number of trips to Europe.

She is survived by her sons David (Sherry Stark) Tiede, Columbus, IN, and Mark (Dianne) Tiede, Grand Island, NY, and her brother, Charles Alfred Pence, California. She had eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents, Paul M. and Bertha Victoria McCoy Pence; and her siblings, Betty Ann Pence, Rachel Patricia Simons, Cora Leona Morrison, Paul Pence Jr., James Eldon Pence, and William Howard Pence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Fund at Heritage Fund, P.O. Box 1547, Columbus, IN 47202, or to the donor’s choice of charities.

The family will receive people in Newark, Ohio, at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with burial at 11:30 a.m. at Newark Memorial Gardens.

The family expresses its gratitude to the staff of Four Seasons Health Center and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana for the tender care given Penny.
