D. Gene Dickey, 71, of S. Stratton Court, went to be with the Lord at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

He was born in Bartholomew County, August 27, 1941, the son of the late Earl and Frances Trisler Dickey. He married Nancy Coles on November 15, 1963, and she survives.

Gene graduated in 1959 from Columbus High School. He was employed at Cummins Engine Company from February 1962 until his retirement in February 1998. Gene loved sports and baseball was a big part of his life. Gene was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with his granddaughter, Heather, who he shared a special bond with. He loved Jesus with all his heart, soul, strength and mind.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son, Todd (Lisa) Dickey of Columbus; a daughter, Teresa Dickey Eikenbary of Columbus; and a granddaughter, Heather Dickey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Earl Dickey.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Day Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
