Chester Arthur Simonson, 94, of Taylor Road, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.

He was born in Aitken County, Minn., August 18, 1918, the son of the late Lewis and Lene Gabrielson Simonson. He married Evelyn Powell Warren on April 2, 1994. She survives.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. During WWII, he was in the Army, serving in the Pacific. After the war, he joined the Air Force Reserve and worked as a civil service aircraft mechanic at the former Bakalar Air Base in Columbus and retired from the Department of Army Civil Service.

In addition to his wife, Chester is survived by stepdaughters, Vicki (Tom) Washburn of Seabrook Island, S.C., and Dianne (Robert) Smith of Virginia Beach, Vir.; a stepson, Steve (Diane) Warren of Mt. Zion, Ill.; a sister, Ethel Rose of Stanton, Calif.; six stepgrandchildren, and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jean P. Robertson Simonson; a daughter, Linda Fry; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry Isbell officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Calling will be from 9:30 until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements were made by Hathaway-Myers Chapel.
