John William Lee Jr., 90, of Osgood, Indiana, formerly of Bennington, Indiana, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Manderly Health Care in Osgood.

John entered this life on January 19, 1923, in Switzerland County, Indiana, the loving son of the late John William Lee Sr. and Nellie A. Gibbs Lee. He resided in Switzerland County most of his life and in Ripley County, Indiana, for 18 years and graduated high school from the Armed Forces Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii.

John was united in marriage in January of 1939, to Lucille Littrell. He was later united in marriage in 1951 to Marcile Elizabeth Watson. In 1973, John was united in marriage to Nancy Sue Parrish.

John was inducted into the United States Navy on July 10, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky, rising to the rank of Boatswain's Mate First Class, serving with the 117th U.S. Naval Construction Battery during World War II. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, the C.B. Insignia and the Golden Dragon Order. He was honorably discharged on December 9, 1945, in Great Lakes, Illinois.

He retired after 60 years of service at the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers, Machinery Movers & Riggers Local No. 44 in Hebron, Kentucky. He was a member of the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church in Vevay, Indiana, the Vevay American Legion Post No. 185 and the Vevay VFW Post No. 5396.

John enjoyed visiting shut-ins at nursing homes as long as his health would permit. He will be remembered for his love of farming and raising Angus cows, channel catfish, chickens and turkeys. John was a loving father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by six daughters, Joy Dean Lee of Orlando, FL, Mary Hunt of Versailles, IN, Joyce Ann Buchanan of Versailles, IN, Patricia Lee of Bloomington, IN, Denise Stevens of Cambridge City, IN, and Rebecca Ann Lee of Bloomington, IN; eight sons, Joe Lee of Butlerville, IN, Mike Lee of Colorado Springs, CO, John William Lee III of Williamsburg, VA, Paul Lee of Bloomington, IN, Edward Lee of Kankakee, IL, James Lee of Madison, IN, Rick Lee of Madison, IN, and John Aaron Lee of Bloomington, IN; 36 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Lee of Royal Oak, MI; two sisters, Bonnie Bliss of Greenfield, IN, and Nellie Cooper of Fortville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; John William Lee Sr. and Nellie A. Gibbs Lee; a son, William Edwin Lee; a grandson, Charles Atlas Buchanan; a great-grandson, Brandon Buchanan; three brothers, Grant Lee, Archie Lee and Edwin Lee; and eight sisters, Pauline Long, Ruth Demit, Hazel Lee, Mary Rochat, Beulah Nave, Helen Cooper, Opal Boats and Anna Lee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church in Vevay with Father John A. Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Lee Cemetery in Fairview, Indiana.

Calling will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home ,208 Ferry Street, Vevay.

The Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests memorials in memory of John to the Most Sorrowful Mother of God Catholic Church, the Parkinson's Foundation or to the American Heart Association. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
