Mark A. West, 67, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Manor Care South in Indianapolis.

Mr. West was born May 2, 1945, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, to Clyde G. and Dorothy L. (Merrick) West. He married Cherl Sue (Silvis) West on April 25, 1964, at Meridian Church of God in Indianapolis. She survives.

He was a 1963 graduate of Southport High School. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served 10 years in the United States Navy and then was a carman for Amtrak in Beech Grove for 15 years.

In 1995 he was ordained into the Church of God and served 17 years in the ministry at Charlottesville, Indiana, Columbus Central Heights Church of God in Columbus, Indiana, and First Church of God in Campbellsville, Kentucky. He loved Southern Gospel music and was a former member of the Sounds of Promise gospel group. He had served on the board of the Central Indiana Camp Meeting of the Church of God.

He was a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church and a former member of Meridian Church of God in Indianapolis.

Survivors include his wife, Cherl Sue (Silvis) West of Franklin; a brother, Paul G. West (Linda) of Indianapolis; two sisters, Peggy J. Weiland (Glen) of Marion, Indiana, and Patricia L. Mundy (Bob) of Indianapolis; paternal and maternal nieces and nephews, Tim Weiland (Sheila) of Marion, Indiana, Jeff Weiland (Ann Marie) of Knightstown, Indiana, Alicia Clark (Chris) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Becky Meek (Phil) of Marion, Indiana, Paul West Jr. (Angie) of Knightstown, Indiana, Cathy Bowser (Steve) of Indianapolis, and Scott West of Indianapolis; several great-nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends.

The Reverends Wade Seaborne, Larry McAdams, and Todd Wyner will conduct a service Saturday at 1 p.m. at Meridian Church of God, 7800 South Meridian Street in Indianapolis. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary And Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, and Saturday from noon until service time at the church. Burial will be with full military honors at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Columbus Central Heights Church of God, 3150 Sharon Lane, Columbus, IN 47203.
