John T. Lane, 64, of Columbus, died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Kindred Healthcare Center at Columbus. He was born October 21, 1948, at Columbus, the son of Dallas and Margaret (Hutsen) Lane.
A lifelong resident of Columbus, he graduated from Columbus North High School in 1966 and retired in 2000 from Cummins Engine Company after 31 years of service. He also was a Bartholomew County Reserve Deputy in the 1970s. He enjoyed his dogs, reading, crosswords and trivia.
He married Melanie A. Humes, in Elizabethtown, Indiana, on January 19, 1970.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Brian T. Lane of Noblesville; a nephew, Matt (Heather) McKinney of Zionsville, Indiana; his God daughter, Haleigh Blackburn of Columbus; his God granddaughter; Kaleigh Cox of Columbus; and three great-nephews and one great-niece, all of Zionsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nancy McKinney and Linda Lane.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday March 8, 2013, at Springer Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Day officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made through Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport to the animal shelter of the donor’s choice, Bible Church of Columbus, or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
