James D. "Doug" Arthur Sr., 73, of East Spring Drive, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
Doug retired as a truck driver from Kirts Trucking Company and was currently employed by the Phillips Company. He was a member of Flintwood Wesleyan Church, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed NASCAR.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Jones officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Flintwood Wesleyan Church or the American Heart Association.
Born in Cullman, Ala., July 11, 1939, Doug was the son of Olen Arthur and Gladys Aderhold Simpson. He married Betty Sue Kirts Feb. 12, 1960.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James D. "Doug" (Sherry) Arthur Jr. of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, James D. "Jay" (Kortnee) Arthur III of Tacoma, WA, and Daniel Arthur of Columbus, IN; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rosalie Arthur of Tacoma, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Leo Simpson; and a brother, Dennis Arthur.
