Arnold J. Nichols, 83, of Scottsburg, formerly of Brownstown, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, in Brownstown.
He was born in Benton County, January 30, 1930, the son of the late Thomas Everitt Nichols and Mary Josephine Wilson Nichols. He married Lota Jane Thompson, who preceded him in death.
He was a retired lineman with Jackson County Rural Electric (REMC), and was a member of First Christian Church of Scottsburg, Little York F & AM #512, and Knights of Pythias in Brownstown.
He is survived by sons, Ivan A. (Louise) Nichols of North Vernon, Roy A. Nichols of Seymour, and John E. Nichols of Candler, N.C.; daughters, Linda J. (David) Hotchkiss of Brownstown, and Jaity Nichols of Columbus; 10 grandchildren, Franklin Nichols, Nathan Nichols, Robert (Amy) Nichols, Michelle (Mike) Otto, Veronica (Paul) Lundgaard, Jared Johnson, Trisha Nichols, Christopher Nichols, Kirk (Sarah) Nichols, and Lauren Nichols; five great-grandchildren, Kellen Otto, Avery Otto, Paul Lundgaard Jr., Heath Johnson and Jenna Johnson; brothers, Orville A. Nichols of Scottsburg, and Melvin L. Nichols of Lexington; and sisters, Irene Scifres of Salem, and Catherine Click of Scottsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lota Jane.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Brownstown Christian Church, 703 W. Spring St., Brownstown, with Doug Pogue and Brian Richard officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29 at Stewart & Hoagland Funeral Home, 80 N. First St., Scottsburg, and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Scottsburg, Brownstown Christian Church Building Fund or Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary through the funeral home.
