Leona Nell Byrne, 92, of Columbus, died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at University Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
A retired self-employed beautician, Mrs. Byrne was a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church and CREAK Club and was active in ladies' bowling leagues. She attended Asbury United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street, with the Rev. Charles Aigner officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Columbus United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Byrne was born in Floyd County, IN, Dec. 14, 1920, the daughter of Will and Lula Ulmer Appelhaus. She married Charles Byrne Jr. April 13, 1941, in Georgetown, IN. He preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1985.
She is survived by daughters, Donna (Justin) Dobbs of Edinburgh, Sandra (Rudy) Scholten of Bristol, IN, and Linda (Tom) Condit of Jeffersonville, IN; sons, Larry (Judy) Byrne of Mooresville, IN, and Gerald Byrne of Columbus; a brother, Calvin (Betty) Appelhaus of New Albany, IN; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Wilbur “Jack” and John Appelhaus; and a sister, Delmae Hartman.
