Charles Hartman

Boulder, Colorado

Charles Hartman, formerly of Juniper Avenue in Boulder, Colorado, passed away March 26, 2013. He was 75. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his son Steven; his ex-wife, ZoAnn Brinkman, and three grandchildren.

Charlie was well known to residents of Boulder as a teacher at Baseline Junior High, presenter of travel films, volunteer usher at the Chautauqua Concert Series, and frequenter of “Fred’s Place” on Pearl Avenue Mall.

Charlie was born in Warsaw, Indiana, February 18, 1938 to Everett and Ruth Hartman. He was an only child growing up but spent considerable time with his cousins Sandra Allen, Tom Hartman, John McCarter, and Jim Van Horne.

Charlie attended Warsaw High where he met ZoAnn Sleighter, and both attended Indiana University where they studied teaching. They were married in 1960. They lived in Indiana where Charlie taught at Warsaw High School from 1961 to 1963, and Columbus High School from 1963 until 1970 when they moved to Boulder. Charlie and ZoAnn divorced in 1972.

Charlie taught at Baseline Junior High from 1970 until 1986 when he began his second career as an independent travel filmmaker. Charlie filmed, edited, and presented his travel films in person. He took great pride in the classical music he selected for the soundtracks. His slide shows include The Oregon Trailand 10 Speeds Across America and his films included: Route 66, Eastern Europe, Austria, Royal England, Norway, Switzerland, Poland, and of course Colorado.

Charlie met Margaret Sacksteder when they were both teachers at Baseline Junior High. Charlie and Margaret renewed their friendship and were married in 1997. They traveled together during the filming of Charlie's most recent travelogues.

Charlie loved music, travel, sailing, bicycling, photography and ice cream.
