Larry D. Rowe, 76, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:34 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013 at his residence.

He was born on December 19, 1936 in Indianapolis, the son of Virgil A. and Hattie Marie (Low) Rowe and was raised by his grandparents Fred and Edna Mae Low. He was a lifelong resident of the Zenas Community and graduated from North Vernon High School in 1954.

He was a farmer and enjoyed raising Hereford and polled Hereford cattle, NASCAR, bird hunting and was an avid IU fan. He was a member of the Westport Christian Church and a former member of the Zenas Baptist Church. A 50 year member of the IOOF Lodge # 189 at Westport where he had served in many offices.

Larry served on the original school board that over saw the consolidation of the Jennings County Community Schools and was also a director of the Jennings County School Building Corp. that built the high school. He was also the former Democratic Precinct committeeman for Columbia Township.

He married Norma Brown August 6, 1955 at North Vernon and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Cheryl M. (Michael) Ward of Zenas; granddaughters, Jennifer M. (Brian) Van Landeghem and Rebecca Sargent, both of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Mark, Bob and David Sargent and Evelyn and Tony Van Landeghem, all of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will be at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. with an IOOF service at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Westport Christian Church, Zenas Baptist Church or New Bethel United Methodist Church.
