James Dalton Whitis, 22, of Columbus, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, as the result of an automobile accident.
James was born in Columbus, December 17, 1990, to James and Pamela Willard Whitis. He graduated from Columbus North High School in 2009 and worked for Manuel Lumber.
James enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees, and was an avid NASCAR fan. His favorite outdoor activities were hunting, camping, four-wheeling and motorcycling. James loved spending time with his family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Dean Manuel and Pastor Lewis Burton officiating. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ohio Chapel Cemetery.

James is survived by his parents, James Whitis of Poplar Grove, Illinois, and Pamela Whitis of Columbus; a brother, Dakota Whitis of Columbus; a sister, Laramie Whitis of Columbus; grandparents, Ronald and Betty Whitis of Columbus and David and Louetta Willard of Taylorsville; his girlfriend, Stephanie Underwood of Vallonia; and several cousins.
