Geraldine J. (Lamphier) Simpson, 81, of Bargersville, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
She was born October 7, 1931, in Greenwood, Indiana, to Louis Melvin Lamphier and Laura Ellen (Jewell) Lamphier. She married Chester “Jake” Simpson June 11, 1949, in Franklin. He preceded her in death December 6, 2002.
Mrs. Simpson was a graduate of Alva Neal High School in Franklin and recently attended Franklin First Assembly of God Church. She previously attended Emmanuel Church of Greenwood. She was a member of Union Village Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as worthy matron in 1985-86, and a member of Bargersville Senior Citizens.
She retired from Wavetek in Beech Grove where she worked as an electronic circuit board assembler, then worked part time at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
She was a devoted wife and mother who deeply loved her family. She loved the Lord with all her heart, studied the Bible and was the matriarch of the Lamphier/Simpson family. She enjoyed hummingbirds, feeding birds, painting, writing poetry, working on genealogy, fishing and mushrooms and cooked the most amazing fried chicken and dandelion greens.
Survivors include her children, Kevin A. Simpson (Charmaine) of Bargersville, Rebecca J. Simpson of Edinburgh, Louis A. Simpson (Beverly) of Moreno Valley, California, and Charmin E. Coy (Greg) of Columbus; four grandchildren, Kevin A. Simpson (Laura) of Bargersville, Christopher A. Simpson of Indianapolis, Daniel A. Simpson of Moreno Valley, California, and Jacob M. Coy of Columbus; and one great-grandson, Joseph Anthony Simpson of Bargersville. Her surviving siblings include a brother, Robert Lamphier (Flo) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and a sister, Sheila Browning (David) of Nineveh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two infant children, Louis Randall Simpson and David Joseph Simpson; and a brother, George Lamphier.
Pastor Daniel Richwine will conduct a service Thursday at 2 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Simpson Family Cemetery in Union Township.
