Mildred F. (Hilbert) Chaille, 98, of Muncie, formerly of Westport, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Woodlands Nursing Home in Muncie.
She was born June 24, 1914, in Letts, Indiana, the daughter of J. Walter and Ethel (Baker) Hilbert, and lived in Jennings County for most of her life. She and her husband, Maurice, lived and worked together on their farm in Sandcreek Township in Jennings County, from 1937 through 2006. She moved to Westport in January of 2006 and then to Muncie in December of 2006.
Mrs. Chaille graduated from Zenas High School in 1931. In her earlier adult years, she was an active member of Pleasant View EUB Church as a Sunday school teacher and song leader. In later years she attended Westport Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed quilting and reading.
She married Maurice C. Chaille in Vernon, on December 16, 1934. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2006.
Survivors include her son, John C. (Barbara) Chaille of Yorktown, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Alice Chaille; sons, David William and Paul Richard Chaille; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean Chaille; and sisters, Bernice Ruggles and Edith Rayburn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Glenn D. Black officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Heifer International.
