Thomas Wayne "Tommy" Smith, 39, of Waynesville, died Saturday evening, May 11, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Smith been a cook over his lifetime. After high school graduation, he served four years in the United State Marine Corps, including tours of duty in Somalia, Okinawa and the Mediterranean. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street, with calling from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery and military graveside rites will be performed by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Disabled American Veterans or Toys for Tots.

Born in Louisville, Ky., Aug. 9, 1973, Mr. Smith is survived by his parents, Anthony Wayne and Glenda Kay Wilson Smith of Concord, NC; sisters, Cindy (Ken) Rickman, Salisbury, NC, and Tracy Smith, Midland, NC; and a nephew, Gavin Wayne Smith, Midland, NC.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Thomas and Mary Wilson and Ernie and Nellie Smith; and a longtime family friend, George Hershey.
