Elizabeth Ann (Liz) Harper, 74, of Columbus, IN, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, after a lengthy illness, at the home of her niece. Mrs. Harper was born September 20, 1938, in Letcher County on Cowan, Kentucky, to James Harris and Dora Blair Wyatt.
Liz spent all her working years in the food service business including Sap’s Buffeteria and Lemley’s Catering. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed helping others, as well as volunteering many hours at All Saint’s Manor in Columbus. She enjoyed cooking, bird watching and gardening. She loved her family and spending time with them.
She is survived by daughters, Constance (Connie) Fairchild Collins of Columbus, and Eugenia (Genia) Ostick Linn, of St. Petersburg, FL; a son, Herman Keith Combs of Columbus; and a brother, James Wyatt of Seymour, IN. Elizabeth also leaves behind grandchildren, Kaylon and Christopher Linn of Indianapolis, Chandus Linn of Hope, and Brittney Brumfield and Bethanie Collins, both of Columbus. Liz is also survived by Stanley Ostick and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and mourn her loss.
Preceding Elizabeth in death were parents, Dora Blair and James Harris Wyatt; sisters, Helen Homer, Sybil Wyatt, Henrietta Marcum, Catherine Banks, Rosemary Miller, Frances York, and Carolyn Boggs; a brother, Glenn Wyatt; husbands, Bill Fairchild, Fulton Combs, Bond Leonard, Robert Young and Roy Harper; daughters, Billie Ann Fairchild Smith and Sheila Carol Combs Brumfield; grandsons, John Travis Collins and Aaron Lyndon Smith; and a son-in-law, Richard Linn.
A celebration of life will be held at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or to the family through the funeral home.
