Katharyne M. Nolting Baute was born to Ralph O. and Katie Voelz Nolting August 7, 1919, in Bartholomew County, which she called home her entire life.

She was a 1937 graduate of Clifford High School. On August 15, 1941, she married Edward W. Baute. Both Katharyne and Ed worked at Arvin Industries in the early '40s. During Ed’s time in the U.S. Navy, during World War II, they spent limited time together in Norfolk, VA, and San Diego, CA.

She was always a homemaker, taking great care of her family and home. She was secretary of Clifford and Hope Elementary Schools from 1961to 1971 and later in the '70s she was employed at the Hope License Branch. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Since the early '70s she had been an active member of CSA (Community Service Aids) at the Senior Center. She hand-embroidered thousands of doll faces and helped to complete dolls for the local hospital and Riley Hospital for distribution to sick children and sewed thousands of four-inch quilt blocks together creating lap robes and small and large quilts for family and friends and area nursing homes.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Pastor Todd Riordan will officiate. Calling will be from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
