Windell L. Pierce, 73, of Taylorsville, died at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Windell was a member and former pastor of Hawcreek Missionary Baptist Church in Hope. He sang gospel music for 50 years, first with the Melody Boys and then the Singing Sands. He was a partner in Taylorsville Plumbing and Heating and was owner of Pierce's Plumbing and Heating.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawcreek Missionary Baptist Church on Mill Street in Hope with Brother Joe Whitehead officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hawcreek Missionary Baptist Church.

Born in Barren County, Ky., March 8, 1940, Windell was the son of Lonnie Q. Pierce and Nina Pardue Pierce. He married Mona L. Saltsman Sept. 19, 1959.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David (Waunita) Pierce, Taylorsville, IN; daughters, Teresa (Dan) Cardinal and Karen (Jim) Porter, both of Columbus, IN; brothers, Wayne (Barbara) Pierce, Shelbyville, IN, and Delmar (Barbara) Pierce, Kentucky; a sister, Judy (C.L.) Saltsman, Columbus, IN; and grandchildren, Amanda (Jon) Rader, Justin Pierce, Jon Jines, Mitchell Cardinal, Maycie Porter and Jami Porter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette Pierce.
