Kenneth Lee Rager, 88, of Central Avenue, died at 5:42 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Ken graduated from Columbus High School in 1943 and served as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as production manager from The Republic newspaper after 40 years of service. He had also worked at Bicycle Station and Advance Auto after retirement.
Ken was a member and elder of East Columbus Christian Church and had a lifelong commitment to Christian service. He enjoyed golfing, bicycling, motorcycle riding and spending time with his family.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. The Revs. David Armstrong and Ron Bridgewater will officiate and Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard will conduct military honors.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hilltop Christian Camp's "Appreciation Trail."
Born in Columbus May 24, 1925, Ken was the son of Arthur Rager and Mary Giddings Rager. He married Margaret L. Donica Dec. 26, 1948. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Kevin Lee (Brenda) Rager of Center Grove, IN; daughters, Debra Kay (John) LaFont of Columbus, IN, and Paula Sue (Berton) Kaufman of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Wendy Long, Jason Long, Christopher Wren, Amy Jones, Ryan Wren, Sarah Caudill, and Laura Otte; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Martha Rager of Columbus, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and Richard Rager; and a sister, Charlotte Bailey.
