Leons J. Berzajs, 56, of Columbus, died of an unexpected illness at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at IU Health Hospital in Indianapolis.
Leons owned and operated L.J. Berzajs & Associates. His woodworking and welding skills led to many creative designs and solutions. He enjoyed boating and water skiing.
A private memorial service will be conducted Friday afternoon, with the Rev. J. Kirby Rupp officiating, and inurnment will be at a later date at Garland Brook Mausoleum.
A celebration of Leons' life will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bartholomew County Shrine Club, 8630 S. County Road 150W, Columbus.
The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Silver Oaks Health Campus Resident Activity Fund, 2011 Chapa Dr., Columbus, IN 47203.
Arrangements were made by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home.
Born in Columbus August 11, 1956, Leons was the son of Janis "Big John" and Melita V. Ignas Berzajs.
Survivors include his mother, of Columbus; brothers, Haralds (Debra) Berzajs of Anaheim, CA and Ronalds Berzajs of Columbus; nieces, Erin (Joel) Stubbs of Long Beach, CA, and Natalie Berzajs of Brea, CA; and a great-niece, Evalynn Stubbs of Long Beach, CA.
He was preceded in death by his father.
