Doris Ann (Albright) Porter, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2013, at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County.
Doris was born February 24, 1934, in Indianapolis, to the late Loranzia and Ruth L. (Johnson) Albright. She was a 1951graduate and Valedictorian of Helmsburg High School. She married William Allen Porter September 19, 1954, in Spearsville, IN. He survives after 58 devoted years of marriage.
Doris was a retired Team Leader from the State of Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, where she worked for more than thirteen years. Prior to that, she worked as an Office Clerk with Farm Bureau Co-Op and as Head Cook at Sprunica Elementary School. She was an active member of the Neighborhood Church of God, where she was former pianist and organist. She also was a member of the Democrat Women’s Club in Brown County.
Doris enjoyed working in her gardens, bird watching and spending time with her family. She was known for her cooking and baking, especially her homemade yeast rolls and peanut butter fudge. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her husband.
Doris is survived by three daughters, Nancy (husband, Gary) Manning of Brown County, Donna (husband, Richard) Lucal of Cincinnati, OH, and Betty (husband, Jim) Coop of Indianapolis; and one son, Kenneth Porter of Brown County. She will be remembered by her half sister, Helen Keymon of Brown County, seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ralph O. Phillips, and one sister, Margaret Turner.
The Rev. John Parsley will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spearsville Wesleyan Cemetery in Brown County.
