Sylvia A. Nicholson, 87, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta.
She was born January 19, 1926, in Westport, to Henry W. and Stella S. (Jenkins) Cooper. She was raised in Westport, was a former Indianapolis resident and had lived in Atlanta since 1966. She also lived in France and Germany while her husband was stationed there.
She graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1944 and worked at RCA in Indianapolis for 16 years. She was a member of the International Travel Study Club of Indianapolis, First Baptist Church in Atlanta, and the Forty-Niner Club. She enjoyed traveling, music, cooking, gardening, dancing and watching baseball.
She married James A. Nicholson March 23, 1952, in Sardinia, and he survives. Also surviving is a sister, Cletis Faye Thompson of Jonesboro, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Garnet Henry and Gordon Albert Cooper; and sisters, Gladys Stone, Freda Marsh, Vail Browning, Fern D. Cooper and Etta LaVon Forgey.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Tom Rust officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
