Henry T. Davis Jr., 71, of Countryside Lane, died at 11:06 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at St. Mary’s Emergency Center in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
Henry loved blues and jazz music, as well as playing sports at Lexington Dunbar High School and Kentucky State University, playing football, track, and basketball, and playing in the 1961 Kentucky All-Star vs. Indiana All-Star basketball game. While in Lexington, he enjoyed teaching children how to swim as a swimming instructor at the YMCA.
Henry was an Army veteran, serving as a machine gunner on a helicopter during the Vietnam War. He moved to Columbus in 1979 to work at Arvin Industries, then was employed at Marble Hill Nuclear Power Plant, and Ventra Corp., all before finally going to work for Toyota Industrial Equipment in 1989. He worked there for 18 years before retiring in 2007.
Henry enjoyed traveling throughout the region to watch his daughter Ashley play high school, college, and club volleyball, as well as watch his other daughter Amber sing in the Columbus Children’s Choir & Indianapolis Children’s Choir. He loved his family and was supportive of his grandchildren in their sporting interests of football, basketball, & volleyball.
Henry will be remembered as a kind and caring man, always having an open ear for a friend.
Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Sharp officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Born in Lexington, Ky., May 9, 1942, Henry was the son of the late Henry Davis Sr. and Georgia Valentine Davis. He married Marilyn E. Wilson August 7, 1982. She survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Ashley D. Davis of Sun Prairie, WI, Amber D. Davis of Columbus, IN, Patrice Morris of Chicago, IL, and Love Campbell of Lexington, KY; a son, Robert T. (Donna) Davis of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Darion and Jazmine Morris, Zamond and Zamarion Campbell; a brother, Anthony Wayne Davis of Lexington, KY; and sisters, Jackie Ellis of Cincinnati, OH, Barbara Ann Davis of Lexington, KY, Yvonne (Henry) Davis Carson of Lexington, KY, and Evelyn James of Louisville, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mack Goff, Maxie Davis and Albert Davis; and sisters, Sara James Davis, Debra Davis and Bernice James.
