Ruth Evelyn Isom, 95, of Mitchell, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
She was born March 11, 1918, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Jesse and Cecilia Routh Melvin. She married Lowell Isom in 1937. He preceded her in death June 5, 1983.
Ruth graduated from Mitchell High School with the class of 1937. She was a homemaker and a member of Mitchell First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Janice K. Sell of Columbus and Joandel Shaber of Mitchell; three grandchildren, David Slone, Cheryl Pollert and Missy Shaber; five great-grandchildren, Isaac Pollert, twins Levi and Noah Pollert, Ryan Slone and Elise Slone; one sister, Lois Root of Orleans; one nephew, Bill Head of Mitchell; and a brother-in-law, Rex Morris.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Willard Melvin, Noble Melvin and Roscoe Melvin; and four sisters, Lorena Elrod, Edith Deweese, Elva Russell and Mary Lou Morris.
The funeral will be Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with J.D. Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Cemetery, Mitchell. Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.
