Leona Mae Bennett, 95, of California Street, died at 12:39 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Leona retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1983. She also sold Beauty Counselor Cosmetics. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the church's Priscilla Circle.
Leona enjoyed bird watching, gardening, dancing, flowers and shopping. She was an animal lover and a people person. When granddaughter Kelle was younger, Leona enjoyed taking her to nursing homes to visit and hand out fruit to the residents.
Funeral will be conducted for family and friends only at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garland Brook Mausoleum, with the Rev. Dennis Aud officiating. Calling for family and friends will be from 1 p.m. until service time.
Arrangements were made by Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bartholomew County Humane Society.
Born in Bartholomew County May 26, 1918, Leona was the daughter of Harris Turpin and Mamie B. Turpin.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara L. Farlow, Columbus, IN; a brother, Robert Turpin, San Diego, CA; and a granddaughter, Kelle Lee Farlow, Columbus, IN.
He was preceded in death by her parents.
