Dale E. Wiley, 72, passed suddenly August 16, 2013, in Englewood, FL. Born August 24, 1940, in Cortland IN, to Cathleen “Kate” and Ed “Mutt” Wiley, he married Kathie (Welsh) Wiley on December 1, 1961.
Dale served in the Army Security Agency from 1963 to 1967 with tours in the Philippines and Shimya, Alaska. Returning from service, he was employed by Arvin Home Consumer Electronics from 1967 to 1989, where he served as Director of Purchasing, and then worked at Cummins Electronics from 1989 until retiring in 1997. He and his wife moved to Englewood in 2007 where they joined Faith Lutheran Church of Rotonda West. He served as President of the Fiddler’s Green 1 Condo Association from 2010 to the present as well as serving on several church committees.
Dale enjoyed birding, photography and travel, including trips to Australia, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, China and South Korea. He enjoyed meeting and talking with people who often became lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves behind his wife Kathie; brothers, Wayne of Columbus, IN, and Dennis of Derry, NH; sisters, Virginia Eckert, Alma Sue (Wiley) Guthrie and Karen Cross, all of Columbus, IN, and Peggy Colleen Wiley of California; a maternal aunt, Joan Jones of Indianapolis, IN; along with many nieces and nephews. He also leaves sister-in-law and brother in-law, Vickie Welsh-Huston and Tim Huston of Columbus, IN, and many friends from church, the condo complex and his employment years.
Calling will be Thursday, August 22, 2013, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 551 Rotonda Blvd. West, with services immediately following at 11 a.m. Pastor LaVern Franzen and Pastor Patricia Large will officiate. Interment will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery.
The family wishes no flowers, however, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Rotonda West, FL; Suncoast Humane Society, Englewood, FL, or a charity of your choice.
