Russell Ackeret, 69, of Seymour, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 15, 1943, in Seymour, IN, he was the son of Harry G. and Myrtle (Russell) Ackeret Sr. On February 14, 1982, in Seymour, he married his Valentine, Susan Motsinger.
Russell was a member of New Life Assembly of God. He had been employed with Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 1999. He was the founding commander of the local chapter of The Royal Ranger’s and was an avid fan of Indiana “Hoosier” basketball. He liked the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his friends and family.
Besides his wife, Susan, he is survived by his children, David Ackeret, Barbara (David) Wyatt, Debra Ackeret, Justin (Crystal) Ackeret, and Jamie Ackeret; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Eddie Ackeret, John Ackeret, and Scott (Betsy) Ackeret; and sisters, Janet (Curtis) Ziegler, Marcia (Byron) Merrick and Brenda (Ricky) Collins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harry G. “Sonny” Ackeret Jr.; and a sister, Sharon K. Houser.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel in Seymour on Thursday, August 29, from 4 to 8 p.m.
