Joseph Edward Overmire, a former resident of Columbus, died Aug. 7, 2013, in Pahrump, Nev.
He was born April 15, 1931, in Indianapolis. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1947 and recieved the B.Pharmacy degree from Butler University and the MD degree from Indiana University School of Medicine.
From 1952 to 1970, he was married to Dalene Dudley, also of Columbus. Following their divorce, he remarried, to Ann Segrist.
Dr. Overmire maintained a practice in family medicine in Columbus for a few years in the 1960s. After that he served as a general practitioner or emergency room physician in several towns in the western states.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Segrist Overmire of Pahrump, Nev.; a daughter, Cynthia Duke of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Kerry and Tad Overmire, both of Tamassee, S.C.; and a brother, Thomas Overmire of Ann Arbor, Mich.
Dr. Overmire's body has been cremated. The time and place of his memorial service have not yet been announced.
