Carl Edward Aud, 88, of Columbus, Indiana, formerly of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born in Poplar Bluff on June 6, 1925, to William Elmer and Laura Frances Scoggins Aud. He was a lifelong member of Collins Chapel General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and most recently worshiped at Westside Community Church in Columbus. His love for and commitment to Jesus Christ was the defining choice of his life.
During World War II, Carl served as a combat infantryman in the 15th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Army, under the command of Gen. George Patton. Among many commendations, he was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Medal for service to his country. Upon his return home from the war, he soon married Pansy Maddux, his loving wife of 63 years. To their marriage were born two sons, Douglas Eddie and Dennis Wayne.
Carl retired from a career with the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, going to auctions and yard sales, and especially spending time with his family. His family was such an integral part of his life.
He is survived by a son, Dennis (Karen) Aud of Columbus; grandchildren, Kim (Mike) Brooks, Lori Smith, and Doug (Lorie) Aud, all of Poplar Bluff, MO, Jennie (Kevin) Jackson of Greenwood, IN, Daniel (Amanda) Aud and Julie (Matt) Kirby of Indianapolis, IN; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanie (Jerry) Proffer of Poplar Bluff, MO; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pansy; his son, Eddie; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Aud; and sisters, Frances Aud, Lillian Aud, Thelma Jones and Mary Fern Allen.
Calling will be at Westside Community Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013, with a memorial service to be held at the church at 1 p.m. Pastors Dennis Aud, Robert Vester, and Pete Eicher will lead the service. Prior to burial, an extended graveside service for family and friends will be held at Poplar Bluff City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. (CST) Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Westside Community Church Building Fund, 4286 Jonathan Moore Pike, Columbus, IN, 47201.
