Clyde Leonard “C.L.” Poynter, Jr., 83, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.
He was born September 7, 1929 in Hart Co. Kentucky to Clyde Leonard and Ollie Obe (Adams) Poynter. He married Mae Rose Phares on May 20, 1949. She lovingly survives.
Other survivors include his children, Patrick L. Poynter (Alice), Janis A. Kittle (Bruce), Rachel L. Picklesimer (Mike), all of Franklin, Melinda S. Shaw (Ed), Sarah A. Poynter, both of Greenwood; a brother, Donald Poynter of Whiteland; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, the youngest born on August 30, 2013.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; brother Harold Poynter; and sisters Bette Lee Poynter, Virginia Johns, and Thelma Johnson.
He was a 1948 graduate of Whiteland High School.
C.L. was the manager of Farm Bureau Co-op in Greenwood for 16 years. He then transferred to Franklin. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church for 61 years, serving as a deacon, trustee, elder and loyal member of the Fidelis Class, Union Village Masonic Lodge #545 in Providence for over 44 years.
C.L. was a woodworker, having made rockers for all of the grandchildren and various other projects for his children.
Rev. Brad Moger, Rev. David Lee, and Pastor Bruce Kittle will conduct a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 677 W. St. Rd. 144 in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.Wednesday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton Street, Franklin and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin.
