Mertie Pearl Saylor, 84, of Greensburg, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. She was born February 20, 1929, in Benton County, to John and Amy (Matthews) Tobias.
Mrs. Saylor had been a Westport resident since 1940. She graduated from South Decatur High School in 1971, attended Indiana Central College and retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital after 27 years of service. She was a member of Westport Christian Church and loved cats.
She married George W. Saylor in Petersburg, Indiana, on November 17, 1945. He preceded her in death May 13, 2005.
Survivors include a son, Roy William (Jeanne) Saylor of Westport; sisters, Clara Faye Evans of Greensburg, Marilyn Gee of Bedford, Annie Marie Lucas of Columbus, Maxine Alice Hanners of Mitchell, Beulah Mae White of Seymour, and Linda Ault of Campellsburg; brothers, Edward Lee, Paul Ray, and Norman Eugene Tobias, all of Alabama; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Randall Lee and Charles Duane Saylor; brothers, Cecil Wayne, George, Joseph, and Johnnie Tobias, and two brothers in infancy; and a sister, Mary Lue Gobin.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Aerie Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from noon until service time at 2 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Westport Christian Church.
