Mary Jo Kaspar, 75, of Kokomo, died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Columbus. She was born July 31, 1938, in Kokomo, the daughter of Charles J. and Dorothy (Keith) McHale. On October 13, 1979, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, she married Edward Kaspar Jr., who preceded her in death on January 11, 2010.

Mary Jo was a 1956 graduate of Kokomo High School. She retired from Delco Electronics in 1991 after 35 years of employment. She was a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and a former member of the St. Joan of Arc Archive Ministry. She was an avid genealogist and a member of the Howard County Genealogical Society. She volunteered at Howard County Library, was a member of the Mental Health Association of Howard County and the Hospital Cheer Guild.

Mary Jo was a longtime Purdue football and basketball season ticket holder and a former member of the John Purdue Club. She was well known for her well-received letters to the editors to both local papers.

Mary Jo is survived by her son, Jim Kaspar, and his wife, Susan, of Columbus; grandchildren, Lindsay Kaspar and Justin Kaspar, both of Columbus; brother, Patrick McHale, and his wife, Gloria, of Kokomo, two nieces, Julie McHale of Chicago, Illinois, Beth (McHale) Meskis, and her husband, Mike, of Fishers; two great-nieces, Lauren Meskis and Julia Meskis of Fishers; a brother, Mike McHale of Kokomo; and several cousins on the McHale and Keith side of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 South 200 West, Kokomo, with the Rev. Fr. Mike McKinley as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Kokomo. Friends may call at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday. A Scripture service will be observed at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church or to the Poor Clares Monastery or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
