Donald P. Martin, 67, of Lafayette, passed away at 9:53 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born May 8, 1946, he was the son of Lowell A. Martin of Lafayette and the late Lillie E. (Patrick) Martin.
Donald honorably served as a U.S. Navy teletype operator in the Philippines, relaying messages from the front line. He was recommended for service to the White House. He earned his associate's degree from Purdue University in Aviation Maintenance Technology and his bachelor's degree in Industrial Supervision. He earned his MBA from Butler University.
Donald was a quality control engineer for Cummins Engine Company for 30 years. He was a pet lover.
Surviving with his father is a son, Brian Martin, (wife Vanessa) of West Lafayette, and two grandchildren, Nate and Benny.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette, with Pastor Craig LaSuer officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Almost Home Humane Society, Natalie’s Second Chance Shelter or the Salvation Army.
