Mary Christine Coleman, 78, of Westport, passed away at 7:43 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2013 at her residence.

She was born on September 7, 1935 in Wilson County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Burley and Alma (Bain) Hughes. She was born and raised in Tennessee, was a resident of Columbus for 30 years and had been a Westport resident since 1991. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Columbus. She married James Coleman on March 12, 1962 in Nashville, Tennessee and he preceded her in death in 1970.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Denise) Foster of Gladstone, Michigan; her daughter, Kim (Steve) Wright of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; her sisters, Lucille Boyd of Columbus, Lorene Turner of Westport, Jean Martin of Gallatin, Tennessee, Ruby (Henry) Bogle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Nell Broersma of Springhill, Louisiana; her brothers, Bobby (Becky) Hughes of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Douglas Hughes of Springhill, Louisiana; her four grandchildren, Amelia (Clint) Seawright of Rock, Michigan, Craig Klotz of Gladstone, Michigan, Janel Klotz of St. John, Michigan and Mary Evelyn Wright of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; her three great-grandchildren, Werner, Adelle and Annette Seawright, all of Rock, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, DeLynn Barker; brother, Robert Clyde Hughes; and granddaughter, Lauren Eischeid.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with the Rev. David Burnett officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.bassgasper.com.
