Helen Mae Todd Knopp, 81, died Thursday afternoon at her home on the family farm near Salem, Ohio, following an extended illness.
Helen was one of eleven children of Clarence H. and Anna Catherine Wilson Henderson Todd. On January 18, 1932, she was born in Elkrun Township near Signal in Columbiana County, Ohio. She lived in the area her entire life.
She graduated from New Waterford High School in 1949 and on her birthday in 1950 married John H. Knopp. They had three children, Cathy, Emily and Scott.

She was especially fond of caring for the baby calves. She also attended classes for medical assistantship after her children were grown. Helen was always willing to provide a meal for friends and neighbors if needed and lent a patient ear to those who needed someone to listen.
She is survived by children, Scott, at home, Emily (William) Baker of Columbus, Indiana, and grandsons Peter and Neil Baker of Bloomington, Indiana. Four sisters and two brothers survive as well as many nephews and nieces. A sister-in-law and brother-in-law from John’s family also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband John; daughter Cathy in 2008; her parents; and four brothers.
