Wayne Haggard Moore, 80, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born on December 3, 1932, in Kennett, Missouri, the son of Albert Andrew and Thelma Belle (Haggard) Moore.
He was raised in Missouri, was a graduate of Kennett High School and had been a resident of North Vernon since 1992. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1990 and was an evangelist with the Church of God.
A member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post in North Vernon, the American Legion Posts in Columbus and Seymour and the Moose Lodge at Seymour, he enjoyed fishing, roasting hot dogs on the river bank, carpentry, horseback riding and writing poetry.
He married Janet Sue Brown in Qulin, Missouri, on May 18, 1992, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Jana (James) Brooks of Bloomfield and Jennie (Vic) Bass of Raleigh, North Carolina; his son, James C. (Angel) Mason of Orange Park, Florida; his sister, Denna Fetters of St. Louis, Missouri; his brother, Kenneth Moore of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carolyn Murphy; and his brother, Paul Moore.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, at the chapel of the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, with military graveside rites. Mr. George Uppling, Chaplain of AmVets Post No. 7, will officiate.
Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport has been entrusted with the arrangements.
