John W. Knarr, 87, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Heritage House in Greensburg.
John was born in Harris City on December 22, 1925, a son of the late Mamie (Fisher) and Harry Knarr. He Married Willa (Merritt) on August 25, 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Willa; daughters, DeeDee, wife of Roy Cross, of Columbus, and Jane, wife of Bill Hitchcock, of Greensburg; sons, Rollin, husband of Barbara Merritt, of Seymour, and William, husband of Sheral Merritt, of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harry and Mamie Knarr; his stepmother, Mary Knarr; a sister, Mary Fromer; a daughter, Karen Innis Roxy Merritt; two grandsons, Andy Merritt and Robert Brown; and one great-granddaughter.
He worked as a farmer on the same farm for 66 years.He was a member of Union Baptist Church his entire life and was president of Union Baptist Cemetery. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, serving in the European Theater 13th Tank Battalion. He received two battle stars for the Central Europe and Rhineland Campaign.
Funeral services will be at Union Baptist Church, Greensburg, at 11 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Robb Barlow officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
