John D. Helwig, 59, of Seymour, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 7, 2013, with his family by his side.

Born October 17, 1954, in Seymour, he was the son of Harlan and Mary (Polley) Helwig.

On June 28, 1975 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour he married Debra Miller who survives.

John was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Waymansville. He was a welding fabricator for Aisin USA.

He was a member of the Eagles Aerie # 655. John enjoyed the simple things in life as he loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. His greatest enjoyment in life was family gatherings where he could always spend time with his children and his grandchildren. He looked forward to their annual vacation in their favorite motel in Sarasota, Florida, a tradition they had followed for the last 27 years.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Melissa (Fred) Rouse, Andrew (Kera) Helwig; grandchildren, Ethan and Aaron Rouse, Samantha, Makayla, and Will Helwig; brothers Michael “Jim” (Debbie) Helwig, Greg Helwig, Jeff (Ellen) Helwig; sister Jane (Todd) Folds; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Veronica Miller.

A funeral service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Waymansville, at 10 a.m. Monday, November 11, with the Rev. John Beabout officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Condolences may be sent to the family through Voss Funeral Service and memorials may be written to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital through Voss Funeral Service, Seymour, IN.
