Mrs. Ruth Haberstich, 93, formerly of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Brown County Health and Living Community.

She was born May 17, 1920, in Bensenville, Illinois. Ruth was the daughter of Emil A. and Mary Ann (Schultz) Schoppe. On November 20, 1943, she married Howard Henry Haberstich in Bensenville. He preceded her in death January 8, 2004.

Mrs. Haberstich, who many knew as “Ruthie,” worked at Hulda’s Restaurant and Gift Shop for many years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Seymour Elks Ladies Auxiliary. She liked to play pinochle and euchre; she also enjoyed crafts, cooking, reading, bird watching, and writing in her journal. Since moving to Greentree Assisted Living and Brown County Health and Living, she has been under the care of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus.

She is survived by her children, Carol (Meredith) Lee of Brown County and Connie (Robert) Freson of Williams, Arizona. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Allison (Brett) White; great-granddaughters, Madison and Kaitlin White; a sister, Hildegard Schulze; a nephew and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son Howard “Howie” Haberstich, and a sister, Evelyn Schulze.

A memorial service will be held at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus, Saturday, November 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Patrick Galligar officiating and assisted by Larry Klebenow. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service.

Burial will take place at a later date at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be written to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Care Ministry in Columbus or First Presbyterian Church in Seymour.

All arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff of Voss and Sons Funeral Service and Tri-County Crematory, Seymour, IN.
