Gerta R. Antle, 79, of California Street, passed from this life at 10:02 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born in Elliott County, Kentucky, February 5, 1934, Mrs. Antle was the daughter of Clyde E. and Mary Leedy Holbrook. She married Buddy R. Antle February 1, 1958, at First Christian Church in Columbus.

Gerta was formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, and attended Rowan County Public Schools and Morehead State University. She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph Infirmary in Louisville.

A registered nurse, Gerta worked in surgery at Bartholomew County Hospital and Columbus Regional Hospital, retiring February 29, 1996, after 40 years of service. She was a member of First Christian Church where she belonged to the 3-M Sunday school class and participated in Bible studies. She was president of Hartsville Homemakers Club and Kentucky Club of Southern Indiana and was a member of Indiana Nurses Association.

Gerta enjoyed photography and traveling and she truly loved being around people.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Buddy; daughters, Patricia (Bill) Bohn of Columbus and Barbara Antle of Bloomington; grandchildren, Kim (Scott) Fields of Columbus and Trent Bohn of Seymour; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Jean Caudill of Morehead, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Antle was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clinton E. Holbrook.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Justin White and Dan Wallace officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. Cremation is planned after the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church Building Fund or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
